What is oil sludge?

Oil sludge is an oily waste produced during the processes of oil extraction, transportation and refining. It has high viscosity and high pollution. Traditional treatment methods such as incineration or landfill not only have high costs but also are prone to causing secondary pollution.

02 Classification by physical properties

Type

Characteristics

Liquid oil sludge

The moisture content is over 70%, and it is in a fluid state

Semi-solid oil sludge

The moisture content is 40% to 70%, and it has a certain fluidity

Solid oil sludge

The moisture content is less than 40%, the texture is relatively thick, and it is in a paste or block form

2. Reference calorific value for the pyrolysis of oil sludge

Oil sludge produced from oil fields: 3600-6000 kcal/kg

Sediment at the bottom of the storage tank: 4300-6700 kcal/kg

Refinery sludge: 2400-4800 kcal/kg

Sludge from oily wastewater treatment: 1200-2900 kcal/kg

3. More suitable types of oil sludge for gas-fired power generation

Preferred type: High oil content, high calorific value, and easily vaporized oil sludge

4. Comprehensive analysis of the technical process

(1) Sludge pretreatment: drying/pyrolysis/anaerobic treatment, releasing gas

(2) Gas purification: Remove moisture, sulfides and particles to ensure gas quality

(3) Gas generator set power generation: It is efficiently converted into electrical energy and can be used for self-consumption or connected to the grid

(4) Waste heat recovery: Provide hot water/steam to enhance the overall efficiency of the system
