Coal mine methane (the main component of which is methane) is a flammable gas that accompanies the coal mining process, and its direct emission causes energy waste, safety hazards and serious greenhouse gas effects. Although the lifetime of methane in the atmosphere is only 12 years, the effect of 1 kg of methane in 20 years is equivalent to about 84-87 kg of carbon dioxide equivalent. Coal mine gas utilization power generation technology, through the systematic extraction, treatment and power generation process, will be this “mine hidden danger” into a clean energy, to achieve safety, environmental protection and economic value of multiple benefits.
Core Principles of Gas Power Generation
Gas power generation technology takes the internal combustion engine as the core equipment, and its basic process includes:
1. Gas collection and pre-treatment: gas is extracted from the underground of coal mines, and after dehydration, dust removal, pressurization and other treatments, impurities are removed and air pressure is adjusted to ensure that the purity and stability of the gas meets the combustion requirements.
2. Combustion work: the pre-treated gas enters the combustion chamber of the internal combustion engine, mixes with air and burns, generating high temperature and high pressure gas to push the piston, converting chemical energy into mechanical energy.
3. Power generation and energy utilization: mechanical energy drives the generator to rotate, generating electricity through electromagnetic induction; meanwhile, the waste heat generated during the combustion process can be converted into hot water or steam through the waste heat recovery system, realizing the “electricity + heat” combined supply and enhancing the energy utilization rate.

Kelinyuan gas generator sets are mainly applicable to coal mines with gas concentration of 6% or more, with advantages of low discharge temperature, low emission, low concentration and high power, and is a supplier of high power low concentration gas generator sets of more than 2000kW in China. China's coal mines extract more than 10 billion cubic meters of low-concentration gas annually, the technology can increase the utilization rate from less than 35% to more than 80%. It is predicted that after full-scale promotion, methane emissions can be reduced by 7.2 billion cubic meters per year on average, which is equivalent to a reduction of 150 million tons of carbon dioxide.
The volume of gas with a concentration of 6%-8% was about 1.4 billion cubic meters in 2020, and the volume has risen annually in recent years. Low-concentration gas (5%~16%) is often regarded as “dangerous waste gas” and emptied directly in the past because it is in the range of explosion limit. Low-concentration gas power generation technology converts it into energy through safe utilization, and the advantages are centered on multiple dimensions such as environmental protection, safety, resource utilization and economy.
Eliminate the hidden danger of gas accumulation. If low concentration gas accumulates in a mine, it can easily cause an explosion. The power generation technology reduces the underground gas concentration by continuously and steadily consuming the extracted gas, which fundamentally reduces the safety risk and forms a virtuous cycle of “extraction-utilization-safety”. It also realizes the multiple values of “environmental protection and emission reduction, energy recovery, safety and security, and economic increase”.
