Power Generation from Carbonization
Furnace Tail Gas
01 – Types of Carbonization Furnaces
Standard Type: Only used for producing charcoal; cannot collect gas.
Wood Carbonization Equipment: Used for carbonizing branches, wood blocks, coconut shells, and leftover wood pieces from furniture factories. This equipment can be equipped with a gasifier to collect and convert the gas into fuel for self-use or power generation.
Charcoal Powder Production Line: Machines used to produce carbon powder by carbonizing rice husks, sawdust, and bamboo shavings. The resulting powder can be processed into activated carbon.
02 – Features of the Continuous Carbonization Furnace
The continuous carbonization furnace is designed to carbonize carbon-rich biomass materials such as sawdust, rice husks, peanut shells, crop stalks, chicken manure, and tree bark (all under 15mm in size) through a high-temperature dry distillation and oxygen-free process. It has a high carbonization rate.
This furnace uses advanced technology to recover, purify, and recycle combustible gases (such as carbon monoxide, methane, and hydrogen) generated during the carbonization process. These gases can be reused for combustion or power generation. This system not only resolves the environmental pollution caused by smoke from traditional furnaces but also supplies the necessary heat for the carbonization process itself. It enhances operational continuity and cost-effectiveness while turning agricultural and forestry waste into valuable resources. It helps ease the pressure on forest resource supply and contributes to environmental protection.
03 – Collection and Purification of Carbonization Tail Gas
Collection of Tail Gas
During carbonization, tail gas is generated and must be effectively collected. Common methods include pipeline collection and hood collection.
Pipeline collection: Tail gas is drawn out of the furnace via pipes and then treated before being discharged or reused.
Hood collection: A hood is placed over the furnace to trap the gas, which is then collected through a pipeline.
Purification of Tail Gas
Harmful substances in the tail gas mainly include sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, and volatile organic compounds. Different purification technologies are used depending on the pollutants present.
04 – Power Generation from Carbonization Tail Gas
Heating Value of Tail Gas
The heating value of wood carbonization tail gas varies depending on temperature, wood type, and process conditions. It generally ranges from 1,300 to 2,700 kcal.
Principle of Power Generation
Tail gas from the carbonization furnace (containing CO, H₂, CH₄, etc.) is collected and purified, then converted into electricity using gas generator sets.
Advantages of Power Generation
Transforms waste into a valuable resource.
Increases biomass/coal utilization efficiency.
Reduces carbon emissions and air pollution caused by direct tail gas discharge.
Allows carbonization enterprises to be energy self-sufficient and lowers electricity costs.
