1. Agricultural Applications

II. Production Methods of Yellow Phosphorus

1. Electric Furnace Method

The electric furnace method is currently the main industrial process for producing yellow phosphorus. This method uses phosphate rock, coke, and silica as raw materials, undergoing a high-temperature reduction reaction in an electric furnace to generate yellow phosphorus.

2. Thermal Reduction Method

The thermal reduction method is another way to produce yellow phosphorus, but it is less commonly used due to its higher energy consumption and more complex production process. This method involves mixing phosphate rock, coal, and silica and carrying out a high-temperature reduction reaction to produce yellow phosphorus. Although its reaction mechanism is similar to the electric furnace method, its complexity and energy intensity make it uncommon in industrial applications today.

3. Wet Process

The wet process is an emerging production method for yellow phosphorus. It involves generating yellow phosphorus through chemical reactions at relatively low temperatures. This process uses phosphate rock and sulfuric acid as raw materials, first producing phosphoric acid through a series of chemical reactions, and then producing yellow phosphorus through electrolysis or chemical reduction. The wet process has the advantages of lower energy consumption and less pollution, but due to its technical challenges, it is still in the research and experimental stage.
