The necessity of equipping the gas storage tank for the yellow phosphorus exhaust gas power generation project

The exhaust gas from production of yellow phosphorus (mainly composed of CO, with a content of about 80% - 95%) is premium power generation energy. It not only realizes the resource utilization of waste but also reduces carbon emissions, which can meet a criterion of carbon neutrality and carbon peak goals. However, the gas has inherent defects such as drastic fluctuations in gas volume, complex composition and high impurity content, which have led to three major pain points for power generation projects: unstable gas supply, high combustion risks, and difficulty in meeting environmental protection standards.

Therefore, for the project of generating electricity from yellow phosphorus tail gas, the gas storage tank is not merely an "optional component", but rather a "necessity core equipment" that is essential for solving the problem of tail gas utilization and ensuring the stable operation of the project.

The necessity of setting up the gas storage tank

The continuity of yellow phosphorus production directly affects the amount of exhaust gas emissions. Moreover, the start-up and shutdown of the furnace, load adjustments and changes in raw material ratios can all cause significant fluctuations in the exhaust gas volume within a short period of time.

1. The electric furnace has a cycle for feeding and discharging every 1 hour. During this period, the volume of yellow phosphorus tail gas fluctuates from 1000 to 4000 m³/h, with a large fluctuation range and a short fluctuation period. Without a gas storage tank, the power generator set will frequently switch between starting and stopping. The engine needs time from cold start to hot engine loading. Frequent starting and stopping will reduce the equipment lifespan, cause unstable power station operation, and also be prone to safety accidents due to operation personnel exhausted.

2. Without the gas storage tank, low gas volume will cause low efficiency in power generation, equipment damage and economic benefits reduced. When the gas volume is high, the excess gas can only directly ignited, resulting in waste of resources. The gas storage tank can play a role of storage and regulation. There will be no need for a torch while generating electricity.

3. The composition and calorific value of the yellow phosphorus tail gas also fluctuate significantly due to the cycle for feeding and discharging every 1 hour in furnace. The gas storage tank can balance and stabilize the calorific value of the gas, making the operation of the power generation set more stable.

4. The gas storage tank can also regulate the gas volume. It can make the economic benefits of power generation more evident by generating more electricity during electricity consumption peak, and decreasing power generation capacity during off-peak electricity consumption period.

5. There are three applications for yellow phosphorus exhaust gas: power generation, drying and limestone addition. The storage tank can regulate the three applications of the yellow phosphorus exhaust gas, providing a longer time for regulation, which is more conducive to controlling the exhaust gas and enhancing the reliability of the regulation.

The safety of setting up the gas storage tank.

1. The storage tank contains yellow phosphorus exhaust gas, which is devoid of air so can not reach the explosion limit. Even if there is a spark, an explosion will not occur inside the tank, so the storage tank itself has no potential safety hazard.

2. According to the state-specified standard, the gas storage tank should be 20 meters away from buildings and 15 meters away from high-voltage lines. The fire protection distance around it ensures safety.

3. The gas storage tank should be kept away from fire sources and crushing equipment to prevent sparks and debris causing damage to the outer and inner membranes of the gas storage tank, which could lead to tail gas leakage and pose potential safety hazards.

4. The gas storage tank needs to be reported to the safety supervision department and is inspected approximately every three years.
